Thrive This Christmas: 8 Tips for Holiday Balance π
Dec 26, 2024The holidays can be a time of joy—but they can also bring stress, overwhelm, and pressure. To help you survive and more, thrive during the festive season, here are 8 essential tips to keep your mind, body, and relationships in balance. Time to take on the holidays with confidence!
- Stay Hydrated π§
Holiday indulgence can take a toll on your body. Drinking plenty of water helps combat the effects of rich foods and celebratory drinks, keeping you energised and refreshed. I have a big 1 litre bottle by me all day and try and drink at least 2 of them!
- Stick to Your Morning Routines βοΈ
Busy schedules make it tempting to skip your routines, but this is when you need them the most. Whether it’s journaling, stretching, or savouring a quiet cup of coffee, these habits ground you for the day ahead. Download our Positive Morning Routine guide here .
- Meditate to Recharge Your Mind π§βοΈ
Your brain craves calm amidst the holiday hustle - give it the gift of meditation. Can’t find the time? Even 1 minute can reset your mind! I aim for 10-15 minutes each morning, then reward myself with a green tea. Oh, and remember the wise words of the Dalai Lama:
“I meditate for one hour every day, except when I’m really busy. Then I meditate for two hours.”
- Challenge Your Negativity Bias π§
Our brains naturally focus on the negative—especially under pressure. It’s easy to see the annoying bits of people; the things that have gone wrong or that weren’t quite up to our standards. Counter this by keeping a gratitude diary. A few minutes daily listing what you’re thankful for can dramatically shift your mindset and reduce holiday stress.
- Give the Gift of Time and Presence π
Research shows people cherish time with loved ones more than material gifts. Play a game, have a heartfelt conversation, or simply enjoy a cup of tea together. These are the moments that truly matter.
- Move Your Body πΆβοΈ
Exercise reduces stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline while boosting endorphins. A brisk walk, a yoga session, or a jog can reset your mind and improve your mood and make that family gathering feel a little less overwhelming!
- Practice Empathy and Grace β€οΈ
Remember, everyone is doing their best—even if it doesn’t meet your expectations. Extend understanding and patience to others, as you’d want for yourself.
- Embrace Acceptance π€
We often want others to behave a certain way, but true peace comes from accepting people as they are. It’s okay to let go of control and allow differences to exist.
The holidays don’t have to feel overwhelming. With a little intention and mindfulness, you can navigate the season with ease, joy, and gratitude. Which of these tips will you try first? Let us know in the comments! π
